Can Rick Perry’s Evangelical Appeal Reach Beyond Texas?
Aug 26, 2011
by: Amy Sullivan - TIME
Since his entry into the GOP presidential race earlier this month, Rick Perry has rocketed to the top of national polls and attained frontrunner status. The position of the Anybody But Mitt candidate, briefly occupied by Michele Bachmann from June to early August, is now Perry’s. The man who hosted an evangelical Christian prayer-rally-slash-revival would seem to be a strong favorite with the religious conservatives who hold significant power in several early primary states. And so far, Perry is polling well among churchgoing Republicans.

The Criminalization of Politics
Nov 29, 2010
by: Washington Post Staff
THERE IS LITTLE DOUBT that former House majority leader Tom DeLay (R-Tex.) schemed to get around a Texas law prohibiting corporate contributions to political campaigns. Mr. DeLay's state political action committee accepted $190,000 in (legal) corporate contributions. A PAC official wrote a check for that amount to the Republican National Committee, helpfully including a list of candidates for the Texas statehouse and the amounts they were to receive. The RNC did Mr. DeLay's bidding - and the ensuing GOP takeover of the state legislature allowed Republicans to engineer a redistricting plan that helped defeat five Democratic incumbents in the next election. This was a clear end run around the Texas election law. It is less clear, however, that this behavior fits the definition of money-laundering or should be prosecuted and punished using that criminal offense

A Texas appeals court ruled Tuesday that a same-sex couple cannot get a divorce since the state does not recognize gay marriage. "Texas law, as embodied in our constitution and statutes, requires that a valid marriage must be a union of one man and one woman, and only when a union comprises one man and one woman can there be a divorce under Texas law," Justice Kerry P. Muslim groups are proposing a 13-story $100 million mosque in the most prominent spot in America – the heart of downtown New York City near the World Trade Center site. Is this mosque a sign of America's tolerance, or is it a sign of Muslim conquest? The past may hold answers: In 630, Muhammad led 10,000 Muslim soldiers into Mecca and turned the pagans' most prominent spot, the Ka'aba, into the Masjid al-Haram Mosque.

When I was in high school in the early 1980s, I knew that my education was a cakewalk as compared to that of two generations earlier. And I assumed the other teens knew this, too. It took me a while to understand that many people are so immersed in their age that, to them, history is a mystery. How does one understand a past he has never experienced? Here’s how I explain it: If a doctor knows the pathology of a certain disease, can’t he look at a patient with an advanced case of it and tell you what the symptoms would have been during the early stages?

Nov 18, 2009
by: Lillian Kwon - Christian Post Reporter
WASHINGTON – Conservative pastors rallied outside the Justice Department on Monday to test the limits of the newly expanded hate crimes law. Calling the new law – which broadens the definition of federal hate crimes to include attacks based on sexual orientation and gender identity – a clear threat to religious liberty, the group sought to defend their freedom to proclaim biblical truths.

The amendment, authored by Rep. Bart Stupak, D-Mich., went beyond preventing the proposed government-run plan from covering abortion to restrict federal subsidies from going toward private plans that offer abortion coverage. Obama can't be bothered by Islamic terrorism
Nov 08, 2009
by: Ralph Peters - New York Post
In the wake of the terrorist strike on our soldiers at Fort Hood, one individual’s still missing in action: Our commander in chief. The massacre’s 51 casualties, including 13 dead, were insufficient to drag President Obama away from the White House Happy Hour. We just saw the worst terror attack on America since 9/11. And Obama couldn’t adjust his schedule to support our grieving troops. Instead, we got his subtle defense of the perp: Unwilling to use the word “terror,” let alone the phrase “Islamist terror,” Obama warned us not to “rush to judgment.”

Now we know what the mainstream media mean by “moderate Republican.” A moderate Republican supports gay marriage, which would savage the family – the foundation of society. This puts him at odds with an overwhelming majority of voters. On Tuesday, Maine became the 31st state to reject marriage substitutes via the ballot. On marriage referenda, the score is 31-0 for the home team.

Health care reform should not be used as an opportunity to use federal funds to pay for elective abortions. Health reform should be an opportunity to protect human life – not end it. Unfortunately, Speaker Pelosi’s 2,032-page government takeover of health care does just that.

God and guns are what our country was founded upon. Any new student of the Revolutionary period quickly learns that. They are what keep us strong, or what should keep us strong. The Senate Finance Committee is poised to vote on a massive health care reform bill on Tuesday allegedly authored by Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.). A glaring, outrageous, unreported fact is that the bill’s actual text has been kept secret. No one actually knows what’s in it – not even the senators who will be told to vote for it.

They were quickly overruled by a White House that insisted Obama intends to keep his campaign promise.
5 Freedoms You'd Lose in Health Care Reform
Jul 30, 2009
by: Shawn Tully - FORTUNE
In promoting his health-care agenda, President Obama has repeatedly reassured Americans that they can keep their existing health plans -- and that the benefits and access they prize will be enhanced through reform. A close reading of the two main bills, one backed by Democrats in the House and the other issued by Sen. Edward Kennedy's Health committee, contradict the President's assurances. To be sure, it isn't easy to comb through their 2,000 pages of tortured legal language. But page by page, the bills reveal a web of restrictions, fines, and mandates that would radically change your health-care coverage.

Apr 21, 2009
by: Matt Barber - Liberty Counsel
Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) and Rep. Mark Kirk (R-IL) have quietly re-introduced the federal thought crimes bill, H.R. 1913, the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2009. As has proved to be true in both Europe and Canada, this Orwellian piece of legislation is the direct precursor to freedom killing and speech chilling “hate speech” laws. It represents a thinly veiled effort to ultimately silence – under penalty of law – morally, medically and biblically based opposition to the homosexual lifestyle. The bill is expected to be marked up Wednesday before the full House Judiciary Committee.

Don't Bury Christian Conservatism Yet

Those who make this claim point to the fact that liberal Democrats now control the White House and both houses of Congress, that the number of Americans self-identifying as Democrats compared to Republicans has increased, that the direction of public opinion, particularly among young people, on social issues is liberal, and that the Republican Party itself has been divided over the conservative agenda. But those who write off Christian conservatism as a political force have underestimated the driving compulsion behind traditional faith and American freedom.

HATE CRIMES LAWS – FIGHTING BIAS WITH FASCISM
Mar 18, 2009
by: Don Feder - GrasstopsUSA.com
When asked if fascism could ever come to America, Huey Long (the Depression-era governor of Louisiana) replied, “Sure, only here they’ll call it anti-fascism.” Hate-crimes laws are fascism in the guise of protecting minorities. They’re fascism in crime-prevention drag. They’re fascism in the name of combating bigotry and hatred. Truly, we live in a blessed land. What I’m doing here, this evening – expressing my ideas, not those of the government, not those of the media, not those of the powerful, but my own opinions - is unheard of in much of the world, even at the dawn of the 21st century.

Texas Pro-Life Advocates Going After Kay Bailey Hutchison on Abortion
Feb 10, 2009
by: Steven Ertelt - LifeNews.com
Texas-based pro-life advocates are going after Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison saying she votes mostly pro-life but that she supports legalized abortion. They are criticizing her for challenging pro-life Gov. Rick Perry in the 2010 primary and potentially defeating him and opening up her Senate seat for an abortion advocate. Vision America head and pro-life activist Dr. Rick Scarborough summarized the concerns for pro-life advocates.

Rick Scarborough Response: The Real Meaning of Religious Persecution
Feb 04, 2009
by: Rick Scarborough
The editors of Spectator Magazine, one of my favorite publications, are to be commended for publishing information documenting the rise of serious persecution of Christians around the world, but Doug Bandow’s article, which I read with interest due to being alerted that my name was prominently displayed, owes an explanation to many for his initial paragraphs. Nowhere have I ever asserted that the persecution of Christians or Christianity in America is equivalent to that in many parts of the world, and I pray that I will never be compelled to say as much, but to summarily dismiss my contention that it has “begun†is to be less than fair with the facts. Thankfully, Mr. Bandow has agreed that he may have overstated his case.

Barack Hussein Obama is President. Now What?
Jan 21, 2009
by: Rick Scarborough
Barack Hussein Obama is now the 44th President of the United States of America. I watched with great interest as he was sworn into office. The crowd, the atmosphere and setting were awe-inspiring. Having lived in the era of separate but equal schools and separate water fountains for blacks and whites, I was touched by the scene. I attended segregated schools through the ninth grade and was in the first integrated graduating class at Galena Park High School in southeast Houston. And today, 40 years later America has its first African American as President. This speaks well of our country.

Barack Obama has made unity a central theme of his Presidency. Hence, to the consternation of many in the homosexual community, he selected his good friend, Pastor Rick Warren, to pray at his inauguration. Gene Robinson to deliver the invocation at an inaugural event on Sunday: “It’s a shame that President-elect Obama apparently has so little regard for his Christian constituents that he would give such a high place of honor to a self-styled man of God whose only claim to fame is that he abandoned his wife and children to enter, ‘loudly and proudly,’ a sexually deviant lifestyle expressly condemned by the very Bible he’s ironically called ‘holy and sacred.’

Curiously, he intends this as a defense of Lisa Miller's cover story, which announces that we should approve homosexual marriage because the Bible tells that Jesus would want us to.

However, the issue isn't going away, at least for now, since Souter set a schedule for a response from Obama to the challenge from attorney Philip J. Berg. As WND reported, Berg brought his claims to the Supreme Court after a federal judge dismissed his lawsuit alleging Obama is ineligible to be president because he possibly was born in Kenya.

Barack Obama's short but illuminating conversation with Samuel "Joe the Plumber" Wurzelbacher has ushered the subject of Socialism to center stage. By stating that he champions an economic policy that would "spread the wealth around," Senator Obama alarmed many Americans who recognize the parallels between his statement and one espoused by French Socialist Louis Blanc in 1840: "From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs!" In defense of his statement, Obama, his campaign and his massive army of Obamabot surrogates have come out hard against those who are making the correlation between the Obama economic agenda and the Marxist economic model.

I have been blessed with a daughter named Tamara. You won’t be surprised to hear that people meeting her regularly break out singing – “The sun will come out tomorrow…†from the musical Annie. The song reflects Annie’s optimism and eagerness to meet her future, but if she studied ancient Jewish wisdom, she would actually sing, “The sun will come out todayâ€. Such a change would not only save my daughter from well-intentioned but unmusical humorists, it would also more accurately reflect a Biblical understanding of what a day really is. In the first chapter of Genesis, during the seven days of creation, the phrase “And it was evening and it was morning …†is repeated seven times. First comes evening, and thereafter, morning. Archbishop Burke: Democrats becoming 'party of death'
Sep 30, 2008
by: Cindy Wooden - Catholic News Service
ROME (CNS) -- The Democratic Party in the United States "risks transforming itself definitively into a 'party of death,'" said U.S. Archbishop Raymond L. Burke, prefect of the Vatican's highest court. An interview with the former archbishop of St. Louis was published in the Sept. 27 edition of Avvenire, a daily Catholic newspaper sponsored by the Italian bishops' conference. The newspaper asked the archbishop, the new head of the Supreme Court of the Apostolic Signature, for his reaction to reports that his Vatican job was designed to get him away from St. Louis.

The mainstream media have gone over the line and are now straight-out propagandists for the Obama campaign. While they have been liberal and blinkered in their worldview for decades, in 2007-08, for the first time, the major media consciously are covering for one candidate for president and consciously are knifing the other. This is no longer journalism; it is simply propaganda. (The American left-wing version of the Volkischer Beobachter cannot be far behind.)

Are You Qualified? They ask Palin, but not Obama.
Sep 19, 2008
by: Cleta Mitchell - Wall Street Journal
There it was. Boom! First question out of the box from Charlie Gibson to Gov. Sarah Palin, using the "Q" word. The word that every actual or aspiring professional woman constantly asks herself: Am I qualified? Over my nearly 40-year career, I have addressed this topic in countless speeches, panels, roundtables, seminars, presentations and one-on-one counseling sessions with women of every age. Like all women, Sarah Palin knows this attitude exists. She took it in stride and nailed her response.

In recent days, a consensus has developed among the Obama campaign and commentators in the press that John McCain has decided to lie his way to the White House. Exhibit A in this new consensus is McCain’s ad, released last week, claiming that Barack Obama’s “one accomplishment†in the field of education was “legislation to teach ‘comprehensive sex education’ to kindergartners.†Within moments of the ad’s appearance, the Obama campaign called it “shameful and downright perverse.†The legislation in question, a bill in the Illinois State Senate that was supported but not sponsored by Obama, was, according to Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton, “written to protect young children from sexual predators†and had nothing to do with comprehensive sex education for kindergartners. In a stinging final shot, Burton added, “Last week, John McCain told Time magazine he couldn’t define what honor was. Now we know why.â€
Joe Biden Slams Sarah Palin on Down Syndrome Son, Stem Cell Research
Sep 10, 2008
by: Steven Ertelt - LifeNews.com
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Joe Biden, Barack Obama's pro-abortion running mate, is coming under fire for comments he made today attacking vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin. After attacking her on abortion, Biden then slammed Palin on the birth of her son, who has Down syndrome. During her acceptance speech last week, Paling promised the parents of disabled children that she would be their advocate in the White House. Biden questioned that commitment by attacking Palin's stance on the issue of embryonic stem cell research, which has never helped a single patient.

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Sarah Palin introduced herself to America last night as "just your average hockey mom," but to the roar of ecstatic Republican National Convention delegates her convention speech rose above the expectations birthed last week when John McCain stunned the nation by choosing the Alaska governor as his running mate. Making it seem easy to deliver a speech watched by millions worldwide amid a media frenzy over her personal life, she told her story and framed the argument for a McCain-Palin White House, delivering carefully crafted one-liners to Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's doorstep with a resolute smile.

SBA List President Statement on Sen. John McCain's Vice Presidential Selection
Sep 02, 2008
by: SBA List
Washington – Today, in response to the announcement that Sen. John McCain chose Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his vice presidential running mate, the President of the Susan B. Anthony List offered the following statement: "Sarah Palin is the whole package. There couldn't be a better vice presidential pick," said Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. "Women voters are electrified, and Sarah is someone who is truly in sync with the way real American women think. She is a reform-minded woman who will give all Americans, born and unborn, the authentic leadership they deserve." "The majority of American women support commonsense restrictions on abortion. Adding Palin to the GOP ticket will resonate with independent women voters nationwide. By choosing the boldly pro-life Sarah Palin as his running mate, John McCain has taken his stand as the one true, authentic pro-life ticket."

Obama Picks a Catholic Running Mate with Long Pro-Abortion Record
Aug 25, 2008

Sen. Joe Biden of Delaware, Sen. Barack Obama’s choice for his vice presidential running mate, is a Roman Catholic with a long record of supporting pro-abortion causes and legislation. Biden did repeatedly support enactment of the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban, but when the ban came up for a Senate vote in 1999 he voted for an amendment by Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) that said the Supreme Court had acted correctly in its 1973 Roe v. Wade decision that declared abortion a constitutional right. Biden has never wavered in defending Roe.

Prominent evangelical leaders are warning Sen. John McCain against picking former Massachusetts Gov. They say Mr. Romney lacks trust on issues such as outlawing abortion and opposing same-sex marriage and because he is a Mormon. Opposition is particularly powerful among those who supported former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee in the Republican presidential primaries earlier this year.

WASHINGTON, July 23 /Christian Newswire/ -- The Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals today ruled that the city council of Fredericksburg, Virginia had proper authority to require "non-sectarian" prayer content and exclude council-member Rev. Hashmel Turner from the prayer rotation because he prayed "in Jesus' name." Former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, writing the decision, said: "The restriction that prayers be nonsectarian in nature is designed to make the prayers accessible to people who come from a variety of backgrounds, not to exclude or disparage a particular faith."

Scarborough said Kline would appear not as a candidate but as district attorney. “We can’t endorse a candidate and don’t, but we do hope people will vote not as Republicans or Democrats but as followers of Christ,†Scarborough said. “We try to get Christians to vote their biblical values.â€

McCain assailed for opposing adoptions by gays
Jul 17, 2008

NEW YORK (AP) -- Advocates for gay and lesbian parents are denouncing Sen. John McCain, an adoptive father himself, for opposing adoptions by gays, which prompted his presidential campaign to clarify Tuesday that he does not seek a federal ban on the practice. Only one state, Florida, outlaws adoptions by gays, which have become commonplace in much of the nation. The Republican nominee-in-waiting was asked for his views on the subject in an interview published Sunday in The New York Times. "I think that we've proven that both parents are important in the success of a family so, no, I don't believe in gay adoption," McCain replied.

Last week's clash between Dr. James Dobson and Barack Obama is but the latest skirmish in a war that dates back to the time of Christ. At issue: What is Christian truth? Does the true Christian put social peace ahead of his duty to make God's Law man's law? In a speech in June 2006, Obama, citing the book of Leviticus, which declares homosexuality an abomination, noted that Leviticus also says the eating of shellfish is an abomination and condones slavery. Moreover, Jesus' Sermon on the Mount is "a passage so radical that it's doubtful that our own Defense Department would survive its application."

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A provision that would have given financial benefits to the nation's largest abortion business was stripped at the last minute from the War Supplemental Bill. Pro-life groups had complained the measure to help fund the troops should never have contained a section to fund Planned Parenthood. The bill is supposed to provide funding for troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Torn over a non-germane provision, the House was set to debate the Senate's version of the bill, which gives breaks to the abortion business and other similar groups.

The Face of Intolerance: Lesbian Riot Shuts Down Sorba Speech at Smith College
May 03, 2008
by: Peter LaBarbera - Americans for Truth
Lesbian activists at Smith College just couldn’t stand by and let a young critic explain his views about the supposed innateness of homosexuality — so they stormed Ryan Sorba’s speech on the “Born Gay Hoax†and forced him to end it prematurely. Thus they decided for everyone in the room — supporters, foes, the curious and the undecided — whether Sorba’s arguments would be heard. Stalin would be proud.

The intolerance of the homosexual agenda
Apr 20, 2008
by: Judge Roy Moore - WND
In the past, homosexuals have always called for "tolerance" and "privacy," but today they flaunt their perversion in public parades, "gay" television shows and Hollywood movies. Demanding laws for same-sex "marriages" and "hate crimes" legislation, they would require Christians and everyone else to recognize and never question their immoral lifestyle. Now homosexual advocates are moving to mandate their agenda of calling evil good by court orders and government regulation. Two recent examples bear witness.

After “Republicans slammed Leahy at a committee meeting last week,†today’s “threat marked the next phase in the growing election-year battle over the judiciary, an issue that Republicans hope will energize conservatives eager to see more of Bush’s nominees confirmed to the bench,†reported The Hill today.
