Vol. 1 No.23
November
30, 2004
From the Desk of Pastor Rick
Scarborough
Thought of the Day – “If the power
of the Gospel is not felt throughout the length and breadth of
this land, anarchy and misrule, degradation and misery,
corruption and darkness will reign without mitigation or end.”
Daniel Webster
HAVE YOURSELF A GORY LITTLE CHRISTMAS
Planned Parenthood has done it again. The organization goes out
of its way to offend Christians at this joyous and sacred time
of the year.
For the 3rd. year running, America’s largest abortion provider
is selling Christmas cards with the message “Choice on Earth” –
as if the deaths of 1.3 million unborn children each year was
something to celebrate, especially at a time when Christians
recall the birth of another baby (one wrapped in swaddling
clothes and lying in the manger).
Think of the monstrous implications of this sick slogan. Is
Planned Parenthood saying Mary and Joseph had a right to abort
the baby Jesus – that, rather than being ordained by God, his
birth was a choice on the part of his parents?
But the Bible constantly reminds us that children are a gift
from God – and not a decision on the mother’s part. In Psalms,
King David says that God “knew me in the womb.”
It’s hard to imagine something more distasteful than Planned
Parenthood’s desecration of Christmas – unless it’s the grisly
work Planned Parenthood does, day in and day out.
SUPREME COURT REFUSES TO HEAR MASS MARRIAGE
CASE
The United States Supreme Court has refused to review the 2003
decision of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court (SJC)
mandating homosexual marriage in the Bay (Gay?) State.
Plaintiffs in the case included the vice president of the
state’s Catholic Action League and 11 members of the
Massachusetts legislature. They argued that the SJC’s edict
denied the people of Massachusetts representative government, by
taking a vital decision with long-term impact out of the hands
of elected officials. Plaintiffs were ably represented by
Liberty Counsel ( http://www.lc.org.)
Despite the passage of 13 marriage amendments on state ballots
this year, the Supreme Court has put the whims of un-elected
judges above the express will of the American people. Most
observers believe that had the Massachusetts constitution
allowed citizens to vote on a marriage amendment this year, it
too would have passed – overwhelmingly. Judges just don’t get it
– which is why the time may have come to seriously consider
impeaching the worst offenders.
The court’s action underscores the urgent need for an amendment
to the United States Constitution to put an end to the travesty
of gay “marriage,” once and for all. With an enhanced
conservative majority in the next Congress, this must be the
very first order of business.
BLACK MINISTER AGREES – ROGUE NBA PLAYERS
ACTED LIKE THUGS
In the November 23rd Patriot Pastor Alert, we commented on the
violence at a November 19 Detroit Pistons-Indiana Pacers game,
where one player actually ran into the stands and began punching
fans.
If you think my comments then were unduly harsh, listen to those
of Rev. Jesse Lee Petersen, a courageous African-American
minister and the president of BOND (Brotherhood Organization of
a New Destiny).
Rev. Petersen says, “Ron Artest, Stephen Jackson and Jermaine
O'Neal should be banned from the league. They should also have
criminal charges filed against them.”
Unfortunately, that’s unlikely to happen. The most serious
charge contemplated by prosecutors – felony assault (punishable
by up to 4 years in prison) – would be against the fan who threw
a folding chair that hit several spectators.
Apparently, the charge contemplated against 6 foot-7 inch,
247-pound Artest (who literally pummeled fans after he was hit
with a plastic cup) is misdemeanor assault and battery.
Peterson charges: “Players today are coddled from college all
the way to the NBA. Most come from single-parent households
without fathers. As a result, they’re angry and have no respect
for themselves and anyone else.”
The savagery at the Pistons-Pacers game is another sign of a
society in decline -- one that’s traded Christian values for an
anything-goes celebrity culture.
SUPREME COURT HEARS MARIJUANA CASE
Yesterday, the Supreme Court heard
the California medical marijuana case. At issue is whether
federal drug laws override (or preempt) the efforts of a state
to allow marijuana to be used by patients.
California voters passed an initiative authorizing physicians to
“prescribe” marijuana for patients with everything from cancer
to chronic back pain. Like a number of states that have passed
such initiatives, in California, the drug lobby (fueled by
millions of dollars from billionaire leftists like George Soros)
convinced a gullible public that medical marijuana is
compassionate.
But the American Medical Association and almost every other
reputable medical and scientific group is opposed to this fraud.
In reality, it’s not about compassion for the sick and dying,
but back-door legalization of a dangerous drug – the gateway to
even more harmful substances (including cocaine and heroin) and
a lifetime of addiction.
Bottom line: Marijuana isn’t medicine. Addiction isn’t
compassionate. (At a press conference after the court heard oral
arguments in the case, several parents who’d lost children to
drugs testified.)
We hope the Supreme Court strikes a blow against the drug
culture that is robbing our children of dignity. Those of us who
minister in local churches are constantly called upon to pick up
the pieces of lives destroyed by drugs.
