So many of us have been fully supportive of President Bush and his leadership in the global war on terror, and with good reason. We see every day that the fight is still raging, but this week we have seen that freedoms, in particular religious freedoms, are still in peril.
I urge you to join me in prayer for our Christian brother Abdul Raman of Afghanistan. Mr. Raman is facing a government-ordered death sentence for professing his Christian faith.
Back home in America, we may not be battling for our very own lives, but the battle is raging around us. My friends, this battle is of great importance and we are gaining ground every day!
Last week, I was invited for the third straight year to meet with Congressional leaders along with a small group of other select religious leaders. For three hours we discussed how we could effectively work together to move the conservative moral and social agenda.
I presented our Values Voter Contract with Congress which Vision America has been working on with other national Christian organizational leaders for months. We have forged a working coalition with Phyllis Schlafly of Eagle Forum, Dr. Alan Keyes, Janet Folger, author and national talk show host, Tom McClusky of Family Research Council, and Rabbi Aryeh Spero, among others. We have developed a document which lists 10 grievances against the Federal Courts and activist judges. We believe these items have been instrumental in undermining morality in our country, and we have offered 25 legislative solutions which if passed and signed into law, would end the tyranny of the past 40 years and launch an era of American Renewal.
During a break, one of the Congressional leaders came to me and stated that what I presented was the most visionary thing he heard at the meetings. He took a stack of our documents to circulate among his staff and colleagues.
Over the next two days Phillip Jauregui and I met with additional Congressmen and their staff to build consensus and support for this important undertaking. We also addressed the more than 50 attendees at the weekly Paul Weyrich luncheon, attended by conservative politicos, pundits and activists.
On Thursday, I made a formal presentation of the Contract to about 40 organizational heads at a 6 hour strategy meeting of organizational leaders. Everywhere we spoke over the three days, we received encouraging support and affirmation.
Next week we will formally launch this effort at our War on Christians and Values Voters National Conference in Washington, DC. More than 35 national leaders, including United States Senators, Representatives, and prominent pro-family leaders will speak to the conferees. Numerous members of the national press will cover the event along with Sky Angel Network which has offered to broadcast the entire event at a later time. I will also be releasing my new 288 page book, Liberalism Kills Kids, at the conference, which documents what the left has done to a whole generation of children through their wicked agenda.
On March 29, we will be holding a national press conference to announce our campaign to engage millions of Values Voters with this effort. That same day, we will hold a leadership summit in DC to discuss our strategy of implementation of the Values Voter Contract with America.
